Isaiah 9 : 6,7

For unto us a Child is born,
Unto us a Son is given;  And the government will be upon His shoulder.
And His name will be called
Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Of the increase of His government and peace
There will be no end,
Upon the throne of David and over His kingdom,
To order it and establish it with judgment and justice
From that time forward, even forever.
The zeal of the Lord of hosts will perform this.

  Hi !*COMPLETE_NAME*!,
Greetings from MAN MIT' MAN.

We wish you a blessed Christmas to you and your loved ones

From all of us at Man Mit' Man Suriname

In the November 24, 2001, edition of  De Ware Tijd , a local daily newspaper in Suriname, there was an article about the problem of domestic violence, the mistreatment and abuse of women. The article discussed extensively the reasons and ways men abuse women. Organizations such as Moiwana ’86 (a Suriname human rights organization) and the Stop Violence Against Women Foundation closely monitor developments in this area.  Investigations are now underway that already indicate how grave this situation is.  In the newspaper article, writer Maikel expresses his thoughts on the matter.  He says that there is too little attention given to the causes of violence against women. Maikel finds that the man is victim of his own situation.  “We men have a problem, because we have not learned how to deal with our women in our family life,” he suggests. He blames the whole community for this. “The church, as well as women’s rights organizations and the field of social work, have all failed in this.  There is a great shortage of role modeling. On the other hand, there must be more men’s organizations such as Man Mit’ Man," says Maikel.
Maikel’s assessment is quite frank and hits the nail right on the head.  The importance of the work of Man Mit’Man (MMM) is once again underscored through this. In our work we encounter men from all walks of life who come seeking help. The fact that many men have not learned to talk about what bothers them creates enormous frustration, as well as irresponsible behavior.  It is now more than ever the time that we work together on solutions and rehabilitation.

A good resolution for the new year would be to support the work of MMM.  If you already are doing this, continue to do so. We believe that recovery is possible. Our basis is Jesus Christ. Join us!

  WORDS FOR THOUGHT

Has it ever occurred to you that the last verse in the Old Testament makes reference to fathers and children?  Take a look at Malachi 4:6.  It is clearly stated there that “He shall turn the hearts of the fathers to the children and the hearts of the children to their fathers…”  The Dutch paraphrase Bible “The Book,” puts it this way, “His preaching shall bring the fathers and children back together.  They will be of one heart and one soul.”  This passage refers to a prophet who will rise up—a prophet likened to Elijah.
This man will accomplish through his message the reuniting of fathers and children.  The reading of this Malachi passage immediately brings to mind the work of MMM.  Is it not through our work that we want to reconcile fathers to their children and children to their fathers?  You, fathers, meditate on this and make certain that this is being actualized in your lives.  We sincerely hope so!

    NEWS

  • On November 1, in the meeting hall, “De Olifant,” a rap session was held for teachers and students of Dr. J. C. de Miranda High School.  The gathering was part of the school’s 35th anniversary celebration.  Carl and Jane Breeveld had the opportunity to talk and reflect with hundreds of students on the subject “rebuilding the norms and values of our society.” The emphasis was on the necessity of a totally new way of thinking in order to implement solid norms and values. The importance of a healthy family life was emphasized as well as the example presented by parents and teachers.  Students were challenged to keep each other alert and accountable in the process in order to improve and be the best they can. The informal conversation afterwards, confirmed just how important it was to bring to the forefront this discussion of personal values.
  • On Sunday, November 4, MMM visited the organization Victory Outreach.  This organization operates from a Christian perspective to help men who’ve been in the grip of drug addiction.  Robby and Eline Wiebers are the leaders of this work.  The majority of men who have gone through the Victory Outreach program have managed to reorder their lives and stay clean of drugs.  In practical ways the men are taught how to develop a different lifestyle.  Order, rules, and discipline are, therefore, very important.  Victory Outreach’s vocal ensemble participated in the MMM meeting, November 30.  Look for more on this in our next e-newsletter.
  • Man Mit' Man is actively pursuing a project to plant a passion-fruit orchard in the district of Commewijne.  Several men are now working hard on this project. The plan is to start this project on a hectare of land (100 acres).  It is projected that the orchard could grow to 5 hectares.  The start-up capital needed for this project is about  $4000.  Donations to this project are encouraged.  Support in any amount is welcome!  Through the passion-fruit orchard project, funds will be generated to finance other projects within the MMM organization.
  • For a long time there’s been a good working relationship between the organization Athletes in Action (AIA) and MMM. AIA made a presentation at the last MMM meeting.  AIA emphasizes the use of sports to help develop young men physically, spiritually, and mentally.  The indoor soccer team, the Storms, which is part of the Suriname Indoor Soccer League, is one of the groups with which AIA works.  In the near future, AIA wants to bring in international AIA teams with which to hold special training camps for boys here in Suriname.  Armand Morsen, coordinator of AIA in Suriname, along with his wife Bianca, is doing an excellent job.
  • Saturday December 15, the Assembly of God Rainville will hold a men's breakfast. MMM leaders will be address the group.  More in the next e-newsletter.

    • Brothers,
What a beautiful request from that young man for information on the youth department of the MMM organization!

You’ve got your work cut out for you!!!!

Don't be surprised at the spreading of your work in directions of which you never have imagined. Nothing is impossible for God.

I would not be surprised if pretty soon in the high school curriculum, the subject of MMM will be introduced. Brothers get ready, because I’m already praying to this end!

I myself have an 18-year old son in high school and, as a mother, I experience the need for the work you are doing, especially in the lives of all men, young and old.

Men of God, please keep up the good work!  I stand with you in prayer, and will again and again bring your work before the face of our mighty LORD.

Maureen Kroes-Bakboord, your Sister in Christ.
    • Dear MMM,
I receive your invitation with a heart full of love.
